Since his arrival at Robert Craig Winery in early 2004, President and CEO
Elton Slone has continued the Craigs’ commitment to producing property
expressive Cabernet Sauvignons from mountain vineyards in the Napa
Valley. A career spanning nearly three decades in the luxury wine industry
has made Elton a fan of single-vineyard, cellar-worthy wines which display
balance, nuance, and complexity. Slone has reinvented and reinvigorated
one of the great legacy producer names in Mountain Cabernet farming in
the Napa Valley with a 10 vintage hitting streak of superlative reviews from,
among others, Robert Parker Jr., James Laube, Antonio Galloni, James
Suckling and Stephen Tanzer during his guidance. In 2015 Elton and his
partners purchased the Candlestick Vineyard along the summit ridge of
Howell Mountain from Duckhorn Winery. With this major addition to their
existing Winery Estate Vineyard, Robert Craig Winery has cemented its
place as one of the most significant producers in the Howell Mountain AVA.
Slone’s daily focus at the winery is in farming, production, and marketing,
with a bit of anejo tequila thrown in for good measure. He can be found
hiking and biking most days in the coastal mountains surrounding his
Sausalito home. Of course, there’s wine to follow any strenuous endeavor.
